Rustic Wood Arrow

I have seen several versions of rustic arrows, and wondered how hard they would be to make, so I decided I would give it a try!

Reclaimed Wood Arrow

What you will need:
Boards- I used some old cedar fence boards
Saw
Screws
Stencil
Paint

First you will want to mark where you are going to cut.

The width of my board was 7 1/4", so I cut the pointed part of the arrow the height of the board at a 40 degree angle

The black lines mark where to cut.

The width of the feather part of the arrow is 10 1/4" at a 45 degree angle.

One one edge of the board, make two marks that are 10 1/4" apart.

Draw 45 degree lines from each mark.  Both angles should be going in the same direction, like the picture below.  I marked the lines in red to make it easier to see.

You can make the center part of the arrow whatever length you like.  I just used a piece of the fence board 28" long.
.
Then cut the pieces out of the boards.

Next lay your arrow out and decided where you want to add the point and the feathers.

Next, carefully turn your arrow over without letting any of the pieces move.  It might be easier to do the point first, then turn it back right side up to get the feathers in position.  Then flip it over and attach the feathers.   Make sure each piece is square before you you fasten it together.  We screwed the pieces together to make sure it was really strong.

Lastly,  add the word EAT.  I stenciled mine on the wood with paint.  If you haven't done stenciling with vinyl, and want more info,  I have a couple other projects with stenciling  HERE and HERE.

Now, I just have to  mount it in its permanent place in the house!

Scrap Flag

I had seen a few different types of scrap flags around and decided to try one by using only supplies that I had on hand.

lace flag

What you will need:
Lace
Ribbon
Trim
Jeans
Stencil  & paint or buttons

First. line up your red and white lace, ribbon, and trim in the form of the flag and pin it to a wide band.

Next sew the ribbon, lace, and trim to the band.

Next, cut  a piece of denim that size you want the blue of your flag, and stencil on the stars. I used my cricut to cut a star pattern, but a cricut is not required, any stencil will work for this.

Let the paint dry and attach your denim to your flag.  I sewed mine on, but you could also use hot glue.
Lastly, fold your band over to make a tube and sew it or glue it and put a dowel through.

4th of July Jean Napkins & Utensil Holders

I have a stack of jeans, that I have been wanting to use for a project, so I decided to make them into 4th of July decor!

4th of July napkin ring utensil holder

What you will need:
Jeans
Lace, ribbon & embellishments
Scissors
Hot Glue
Ruler or Tape measure

First, cut the waist band off and cut the pockets out of the jeans.  When cutting the pockets out, cut around the outside of the pocket so that it's still attached to the back layer of fabric.  I'm using a pair of kids jeans this time.

Making the Napkin Ring

To make a napkin ring that snaps together with the jean snap, first cut the waist band in half.  I left the belt loops attached.  The jeans were one of my sons, so they had tightening straps on the inside of the waistband.

Next, snap the two pieces of the waistband together with the snap and then measure and trim each end of the waistband about 4 inches from the snap.

Next, glue the cut ends of the waistband together.  You can glue some ribbon or trim around it for extra security, plus it looks cute!

Next, start gluing the lace and ribbon on the waistband, making sure you go under the belt loops.

When you are done adding trim and lace, glue the belt loops down

Snap it together and you are done!

Making the silverware holder

The pockets are much easier.  Just glue on the lace and trim.  At first I was going to sew the lace and trim on, but then I remembered this would sew the pocket closed.

I glued the edge of my lace a little around the back side of the pocket to make it look smooth.

It makes a fun patriotic place setting!

How are you decorating for the 4th of July?

Father's Day Car

I love the older vintage looking patterns.  I  had some old transfer patterns of vintage cars, and I had to use one this year for a Father's Day project.
.
Father's Day Car

What you will need:
Frame
Scrapbook paper
Pattern or design
Graphite paper
Stylus
Markers, colored pens..

First, layer your papers:  scrapbook paper face up, graphite paper with the graphite down, and the design face up on top.  You may want to tape (with masking tape or painter tape) the design to the scrapbook paper, so it doesn't move.  Then, trace the design with the stylus.

This is what the design will look like:

Next, trace over the design with marker, pens, or whatever you want to use.

I added a tag underneath the picture.  To make the tag I just printed some text and cut it out, using two different colors of paper under it for contrast.

I put it in one of my moroccan frames, but you could put it in any kind or frame or even make a card out of it.
