Poison Jar

I am not quite sure why, but I love to decorate for Halloween.  I even like skull decorations, as long a they aren't gruesome.  I found a really cool jar when I was out thrifting and had to make something new for Halloween this year.

What you will need:
Glass jar
Paint
Embellishments - I used skull rings
E6000
Brillo pads

First, I spray painted the jar, lid & skulls black.

After the bottle was dry, I cut the skull rings apart so just the skull was left, dabbed on some E6000, and attached them to the bottle.

I wanted the jar to have some depth, so I sprayed the black bottle with a layer of my favorite silver paint.

After it was dry, I used a brillo pad to rough it up.

Here it is when it was finished!

What are you creating for Halloween?

Autumn Scarecrow

I have some fall craft ideas that I have been itching to do.  I love to do chalkboard art and I have been wanting to make a scarecrow, so I combined the two ideas and this is what came from that!

Scarecrow Chalkboard

I love Moroccan / quatrefoil frames.  I have a hard time finding them, so I decided to design one. With the help of my awesome hubby, we designed and cut out this layered frame out of MDF.
I do sell them on my ETSY shop if you are interested.

First I spray painted the frames with my favorite Heirloom white paint.  I had to spray them a few times to cover them evenly.

After the paint dried, I lightly sanded the frame to rough it up a bit.

I like to use a faux glaze that I have tinted with some brown acrylic paint to give it a bit of antiqued look.  I usually apply it to the areas I have sanded and a bit here and there  - I wipe it off rather quickly with a rag so it doesn't give it a smeared look.  If you want more of an antiqued look you could use the tinted faux glaze all over the frame.

Then, I add the chalkboard art. I have a tutorial demonstrating how I like to do chalkboard art HERE if you are interested.

I fit the chalkboard art in the frame and glued it in using a few spots of hot glue.

Now the fun part - finding a good place to put it!

Have you started decorating for fall yet?

Hello Kitty Birthday

My daughter loves Hello Kitty, so we had a fun Hello Kitty party for her birthday!

She had some nice Hello Kitty items that added to the decor!  I made some fun serving trays and cupcake toppers.

We had some fun games the kids played.  One game was to have them put their arms behind their backs and lick up a small cup of ice cream like a kitty.  Whoever finished first won a prize!

We also hid a dozen small mice in various places around the yard.  Each kid that found one won a prize!  I didn't get a good picture of that, because they were all over the yard!

What is a party without tons of good food!

At our house, a birthday isn't a birthday without a pinata!  I have a tutorial HERE on how to make this pinata if you are interested.

Here is the little birthday girl herself!

Monogram Cabinet Door

We painted our house recently, I wanted to put up a new sign at the front door.  Here is what I came up with!

Wood Monogram

What you will need:
Cabinet Door
Paint
Monogram Stencil
Sand Paper
Embellishment
E6000

So, I started out with a plain brown Cabinet door I found at a thrift store and painted it gray.

I decided I wanted to be able to see some white thru the gray when I sanded and roughed it up, so I put on a layer of white paint first.

Next, I added a layer of gray paint.

Then I sanded and roughed it up a bit.  You can see the white color showing through.

Next, I cut out a monogram with my Cricut and used it as a stencil and painted it. (Any kind of stencil would work )

This what it looked like after I took off the stencil.

Lastly, I added a metal flower to embellish it!
